Since forming in 2012, gamelan instruments made from recycled cycles have been at the center of Gamelan Bike Bike’s identity and the driving force behind their creative process. These instruments have inspired original music and attracted a community of supporters who share in their DIY ethos. More recently, the group has introduced instruments that link this approach with newer trends in contemporary gamelan music. The five kaleidoscopic compositions on this album capture a moment in this evolution and showcase the sonic possibilities that it facilitates. Teka-Teki [puzzles] refers to the intricate puzzle-like nature of the resulting music as well as the challenges the composers faced assembling it. Each is a unique exploration that bridges sonic imaginaries between Bali and Vancouver.
