Insitu Sessions Remixes

In 2018 Insitu Recordings invited electronic musicians to remix the 46 tracks in volumes 1-5 of the Insitu Sessions series. We cast a wide net, hoping to find people from across the globe with distinct approaches to production and working in different styles. Those who accepted the invitation were given free reign under one condition: the resulting piece must include audio from the original track.
Two years later, we had amassed 49 tracks of wildly different music. Some artists had taken it upon themselves to reference the structure of original pieces, while others had delved into abstraction, using the recordings as departure points for entirely new music bearing little resemblance to the original work. The resulting compilation sees gamelan subjected to bare tonal explorations, brutal noise, pulse-driven drones, breakbeats, soulful RnB, opera, analogue synths, and more.
All original artists were provided with the opportunity to opt-out of having their work remixed. None chose to do so.
A second edition of Insitu Sessions Remixes is planned sometime after Insitu Sessions Volume 10 is released.
