Tandavasandi is a dance piece accompanied by an augmented selonding ensemble. The composition combines timing structures from Indian classical music with Balinese gamelan, while the choreography, which does not follow a literal narrative, fuses movements from Balinese and Indian dance. The choreographer, Ida Ayu Made Dwita Sugiantini, drew inspiration from the Balinese Bari and Legong dances and fused their movements with movements from the Indian Bharata Natyam. Tandava means movement and time, Sandhi, combination or fusion.
