Matemu Wirasa is a series of ongoing activities initiated by Insitu Recordings with the intention of bringing attention to villages rich in artistic potential whose voices have not been adequately represented within the wider arts community. These events provide platforms for discussion, exchanging knowledge, and sharing artistic experiences between artists and members of local communities.
Through Matemu Wirasa, Insitu Recordings collaborates with local sanggar or arts groups to increase visiblity for the arts and culture from a specific place. These events involve projecting Insitu Recordings videos to introduce artists’ work to the local community as well as discussion sessions where local artists may talk about their artistic lives, challenges they have faced, or the inspirations behind their artwork. These discussions enrich the knowledge of those in attendance as well as strengthen connections between local artists and their communities. Following these discussions, artists in attendance are invited to engage in spontaneous performances with one another, adding to the authentic and intimate atmosphere of Matemu Wirasa.
With enthusiasm for collaboration and appreciation for local arts, Matemu Wirasa bridges gaps between hidden artistic talent and the outside world and increases consciousness about local culture in Bali.
